Sweep!

We had local elections, today. The Republicans were swept right out of office, down to city-councilmen and family court judges. Kip Holden (our awesome awesome mayor, and the first Dem to hold the post in two decades) was reelected with 71% of the vote in a four person race. My DAD voted for all Democratic candidates this time around (with one exception, who doesn't count as he's a personal friend). My DAD O.O I was stunned when I found the list he'd made up for himself before going, this morning. There are still some run-offs left for next weekend on a few things, but pretty much every office that was up for grabs this weekend went to a Democrat or, in a few cases (and this makes me really happy) people with no party affiliation whatsoever. Wheee!

Macie went with me to vote, and was allowed to come in the booth with me, which strangely enough seemed to make her really happy. So I have a political dog. ^_^ Also, nearly everyone seems to have walked to the polls, at least in my neighborhood. There were hardly any cars at my polling place (an ex-elementary-school-turned-administrative-building three blocks from my house), but it was packed with people. Lots of them had brought their children (the playground equipment is still up, at the old school). Someone had brought food for the voters. There was a very carnival air about it all.

I am quite refreshed, and have new hope for the political future of this country.

Also, I made a sort of potato/cheese/onion/garlic pie thing tonight for supper that was effectively a giant pierogy, and it was quite good. And LJ thinks I ought to spell that "piggery." Piggery?

There are two possibilities, and I'm not sure which one is more disturbing. 1. Someone has submitted my yahoo account to the RNC, along with my zip code or similar to let them know who to spam me about. 2. The RNC is randomly spamming, or perhaps spamming *@yahoo.com.

In the last few weeks I've been getting so much Republicanspam that it's edging out mortgage offers, cheap prescription drugs and penile enhancers as my top spam categories. Many messages appear to be legit newsletter type stuff - very similar, in fact, to the stuff I get from the DNC, the Green Party, etc (only I've deliberately signed up for that). I have asked my right-leaning relatives if they've given someone my address out of some misguided desire to conservativize me, but everyone swears they have not. It's really very strange. So, I keep unsubscribing myself from newsletters and mailing lists, and new ones keep emailing me.

The strangest I've gotten, though, is this:

WTF?

I think someone told the Republicans they needed to be more active in online campaigning, but they misunderstood the advice. The dozen emails I've received from them in the last two days have done nothing but galvanize me to get out the vote - for the other side.
