Poll: WIPs: To post or not to post
Jun. 27th, 2009 09:15 pmI am indecisive, and want opinions.
I'm currently working on a DCU story that's going to be pretty long. I've got three more days to decide if I want to sign up for
scifibigbang . I'm still trying to figure out just how long the story (tentatively titled "Close to Home") is going to be, because if it doesn't want to hit the 25,000 word minimum, I don't want to try to stretch it. I'm also trying to decide if I could sit on this until December. I like getting feedback as I go, particularly on something I'd be investing so much time in.
There are benefits and drawbacks to both options. Getting feedback always spurs me on, and makes me write more and faster. But if I don't post anything until the story complete, I'm free to change stuff in the early chapters in case the story changes up on me (this is the problem I had with Roh-eh Hanoled, if anyone remembers that fiasco. ^_^; Even Myrtles and Roses, the longest fic I've ever finished (at 58,178 words) started shifting on me toward the end, but that was largely a symptom of my poor planning.
[Poll #1422154]
The questions are, of course, non-fandom-specific, and don't have to relate to me, per se. That said, I am deciding what to do with an upcoming fic. So do you want your Red Robin Tim/Newly Revived Kon now, or later?

Date: 2009-06-28 04:38 am (UTC)As a writer, posting in chapters or all at once depends on the story I"m writing. Some things lend themselves better to chapters, others to one shots.
I was a little reluctant to do the big bang because I'd have to wait so long to post and I like to share things with people right away. I decided I would just wait and write my story closer to the deadline. I can usually do 25,000 words in about a week and a half if I have everything outlined already.
I think you should totally give it a shot. We can cheer each other on! :D
