I woke up this morning, and it was snowing!
This probably does not seem like news to anyone else, but it hasn't snowed like this here since I was seven.
It was thick and gorgeous and crazy, and we made a snowman and everything! And we lost power (and thus froze, as our house is very poorly insulated) but that was okay, because my exams were canceled and I could spend the entire day curled up under a pile of blankets drinking cocoa. After we finished the snowman! Brother rolled him up just like a katamari (I thought snow only did that on cartoons!) Mom ran upstairs to find Brother's top-hat, and Brother and I were yelling at her up the stairs to get other things - like Brother's turban, and his jesus wig-and-beard. We had carrots for his nose and lumps of basalt for his eyes that looked traditional enough to pass, and we dressed him in multiple different outfits: Sammy Davis Junior The Snowman, Adullah The Snowman, Mike (or Les) the Snowman (in LSU gear, including the furry tiger-face earmuffs I used to wear to late-season games when I was like six, and mom's purple-and-gold tiger-striped scarf).
Macie loved it. She didn't know what to think at first, and then she was scared, but then she loved it. We pelted her with snowballs, and it took her a while, but she figured out they weren't vanishing, they were turning into snow when the hit the ground (so she would scoop the snow up in her mouth and eat it). She had to dig through about six inches to get to the paper. She was so wet when we came in that she looked like she'd been swimming.
I don't think I'm conveying the excitement well enough. My usually reserved, 50+ year old mother was out in her slippers and her bathrobe throwing snowballs! The only sweater I own has a deep scoop neck, and the snow was falling down my cleavage (so cold!) but that just made it better.
Those of you in Colorado are probably laughing at me right now, or considering having me committed. ^_^;

Date: 2008-12-12 03:27 am (UTC)I think you actually have more snow than us right now... though it's coming down pretty hard right now outside, so that may change by the morning.
