I got off work early today and thought, "I want to do something other than go home and sit on my couch," so I called B.

B is busy. So I called Mom. Mom is busy. I've got P and M, but I see them every day and they won't want to do anything but sit around at home, anyway.

BGBFF and his BF live in Lafayette.

Goddamnit, I *tried* to be social.

So, here I am on the couch. This seems as good a time as any to talk about my new hobby.

Back when Granny was alive and fully healthy, maybe six years ago, she used to crochet afghans like mad. Always the same pattern, and she couldn't start them herself - mom would buy all the yarn for one, put it in a bag, start the first round, and then leave several bags like this in Granny's closet whenever we visited, so that Granny could keep occupied and make things for people, which she liked to do. At the time, I had mom teach me the two stitches I would need to do one of Granny's style afghans (basically a huge Granny Square that never stopped, appropriately enough), but that was as far as I went with it.

Recently, I saw this post on [livejournal.com profile] geekcrafts  and it inspired me to pick the craft up again. As of right now, I have finished a hat and a scarf, and I have a few unfinished projects in the works (I am making Jayne Hats for several people with the colors of the local college football team, fancy scarves/shawls for mom, Sister, Brother's Girlfriend, and [livejournal.com profile] faile_neume . I still haven't started the periodic afghan, but I suppose there's no reason not to do a square or two right now and see how I like them. I've found a yarn style I like a lot for non-garment purposes, and it comes in a bajillion colors... now I just need to decide which periods ought to be which colors. OH THE HORROR. DECISIONS. DECISIONS!

I am just going to make some blue ones or whatever and sort it out later XD.

Feel free to drive toward Pensacola and hang out with me. I'm getting ready to start my crafty Christmas projects.

WHY IS THE WORLD SO BIG I WANT TO BE CLOSER TO PEOPLE!

Seriously, though, Pensacola? *ponders*

That's drivable in a day, I'm pretty sure...

Yay, crochet!! \O/

What yarn brand will you be using for the periodic table blanket? I'm always looking for new yarn that comes in LOTS of colors. :p

I was going to just use Simply Soft, because I already have several colors of it, and if I go acrylic it will be washable. The yarn is nice and smooth and comes in lovely colors, but I do wish it had more of a twist - it splits sometimes.

I'm so happy to find another crochetter on my flist XD. When I finally get around to attempting something like this:

I might need a shoulder to cry on...

Ah, Simply Soft is good stuff. And they have a great color selection, especially when you add in their recycled yarns and the brights. I'm actually making a pumpkin drawstring bag out of some neon orange I inherited from my MIL. XD

And HOMG, BATMAN AMI!! XD That is too freaking cute.

I just friended you on Ravelry, too, btw. :p *snugs*

Lol, I had no idea one could do that. *friends back*. I am a noob at this.

My brother mocked me when I said crochetting and knitting are cool now and that there were huge online communities about it. He said "I can't imagine the knitting and web-surfing populations overlap all that much."

I rolled my eyes at him because, damn, he obviously just doesn't know. *snicker*

It's a whole new world over at Ravelry. :p And wow, the crafting community overlaps ENORMOUSLY with us geeky web-surfing gals. XD

That looks like a lot of fun. I do more knitting that crochet but my Grandmother did teach me to crochet (my mother couldn't she's left-handed, it got confusing.)I've gotten more into crochet now that I'm fascinated by Daisy Looms, but yeah crafting + geekiness = a lot of fun.

I'm on Ravelry as AJBond if you want to be friends there.

Ooh, I remember crocheting. I made some kick-ass rugs out of fabric strips.

By the way, did you ever get that email I sent you? I sent it right before I went away, which was poor timing, but I wanted to make sure that it didn't fall into a spam folder or something.

Yes! I did! I absolutely loved it but apparently failed to tell you so, probably because I knew you were gone and I thought I had time to come back to it, and then promptly forgot to.

Truely, it was absolutely fabulous, and I actually teased kirax2 mercilessly that I got to read it and she didn't. ^_^; I'll reread it tomorrow and give you some proper feedback, but my overall impression was "this is amazing" and "oh god, Tim."

*grins* I didn't mean to imply that you'd given anything away - I don't know any more than what I said above. I just know snake-easing and that I LOVE her writing and, as you said, that was enough. XD

Oh, baby, I'm sorry to keep you in suspense. Do you want me to send it to you too?

*giggles* I'm certainly looking forward to it! A LOT! But I'll be happy to read it whenever you're ready to share it. [livejournal.com profile] iesika and I just like to tease each other.

(You have my email address, right? I mean, in case you're ready to share it? ^_~)

Yeah, I have your email! Your gmail, in fact. I think I will move the discussion over there, so we can talk at more length.

Aw, but then I can't eavesdrop. :P

I said I was going to reread and comment and then I didn't. STUFF KEEPS HAPPENING. Tomorrow! Tomorrow I will reread and comment!

Also I will finish Justine's Steph/Bernard fic. Somehow.

I'm glad it gave you something to tease her about; I know how much you two like teasing each other!
