It's amazing what four cups of coffee can do.

Close To Home

10,500 / 25,000

And I decided for sure to end the story where I'd originally planned to and make two sequels and a side story, which means no Cassie Drama in this part. I came to this decision while drawing out a timeline and realizing that I'm only two days into a twelve day sequence of events.

Also, I worked 10 hours, and cleaned out my car!

I am really, really happy I made food last night to have leftovers.
iesika: (aw yeah)
I bit the bullet, last night, and decided not to try keeping Close To Home (my Tim/Kon for [livejournal.com profile] scifibigbang ) canon-compliant. I'll probably introduce certain things (I'm keeping Kon with Cassie, when this starts, for example) but New Things keep causing me problems, and the time-line is confusing me sooo much. Kon took the wrong science class! Tim's comic is all out of order and intriguing/confusing! Will Bruce be back by spring? Will Tim and Dick have Resolved Their Issues?

It felt like a huge load off my shoulders, actually, so I was able to sit down and spend a few hours working out a much better outline, with some changes, and dialog/notation for some of the more important scenes. I'm setting myself the rather ambitious but necessary goal of finishing a rough by the end of October, so that I can edit and also decide if I'm going to smush the whole thing together or actually leave it as three fics (this may come down to a time thing). The Ma Kent/Alfred still gets to be a side fic, though, either way.

None of the rest of this post is likely to make sense except to the two people who have read significant portions of the in-progress draft.

I've decided what to do with Cassie, finally. That's always the biggest challenge in a believable fic where one of the characters is already in a relationship. I didn't want to just ignore Cassie, and I didn't want to bastardize her, or Kon, so I went with the third option: I made everybody jerks! So now Cassie is a little tiny bit clingy and bitter but gets to be the unheard voice of reason, Kon is more than a little dense and way too trusting, and Tim is quietly manipulative and a little insane. Feel free to argue with my characterization, but I don't think I'm straying too far from the status quo, here. I'm now actually kind of looking forward to the confrontation I was dreading, but not as much as I'm looking forward to some of the Kon/ OC interactions coming up. I'm kind of fighting not to write this out of order, because I'm afraid I'll never get back to the mother's interrogation and the funeral if I let Kon skip ahead to being a Big Damned Hero. Except, for once, it won't be Kon being the hero...it will be Conner Kent.

I'm almost past the part of the story that's difficult and not as fun to write! Only one more infodump! After that, there will only be subtle clues in trickles, at least until the next major twist... And also wacky high school shenanigans! Unrequited crushes! Disapproving Superman! More Ma Kent! And a really awful school dance! Oh, and, you know, the plot. With the murders and the mystery and stuff.

I think I also need to sit down and determine exactly how many plot-lines and character arcs this thing is going to have.

ETA: I think I've got 12 sub-plots. OMG WHAT AM I DOING!?!

Loophole!

We're not supposed to post anything from [livejournal.com profile] scifibigbangbefore our posting date, but since we were invited to post a snippit over at the community, today, I figure there's no harm in linking it here.

This may shed some light on Tim's afformentioned lack of pants.

(I had to dig around in the source code of a previous entry and manually modify all the values, but I finally got my meter! I'm still not sure why the generator is blocked, as it did not used to be).

WOOOOO

I am one third of the way through my minimum word requirement for [livejournal.com profile] scifibigbang! Woohoo!

I don't have my progress bar, because according too the library it is malicious code. So we're going to pretend, until I can put in the proper one!

They had an interrogation, and a fight, and a make-up, and now Timmy has no pants on, but I'm not telling you why!

Today is one of the two days I get off every month. In addition, my roommates are in another state visiting relatives. The net result?

JESSIE DAY!

I am doing nothing today that I don't want to. I'm taking a short break now, but I've been working on my Big Bang for the last few hours, and I FINALLY WROTE THAT SCENE! If you're one of the few lucky, lovely people who I have bitched to about this story, I'm sure you know the one. It was killing me, not being able to get past it. but now it's done and I think I'm resonably happy with it.

I've got a comfy couch, a mug of tea and two big snuggly dogs, and I'm about to dive back into CtH. It should be more fun, now, since I'll be writing about Kon taking Tim's clothes off. That's always pleasant. And the library is open late tonight, so I have time to go type and edit, after I run out of gas on the drafting.

WHEE! BEST DAY EVER! Seriously, I may order sushi, which will be brought to my door! FOR I TODAY AM A QUEEN!
iesika: (orgy)
T's parents were both off work today. My usual weekend overnight client is visiting family for the weekend. What does this mean? It means Jessie had all day to work on the giant fic, and that I'm driving out to Lafayette in a bit to spend the night at B's, and then I'm accompanying L and his boyfriend down to Holly Beach for picnicking and fireworks and possibly drunken beach antics of some sort.

The last time L and I drank together, I taught him how to crochet and then we were accosted by the police for our suspiciousness. The time before that, I was very nearly sandwich filling of the sexy kind. There's no telling what will happen this time, but the weekend should be awesome!

Fic progress! Today, Kon argued with chickens and Tim ate sausage during an autopsy. Oh, boys!

5000 / 25000

Lookit! My little meter isn't quite so pathetic anymore! I'm pretty much exactly on track for projected length, too. Alfred/Martha keeps trying to distract me, though. I may have to write a side fic. I'm already planning a sequel.

Previews of Adventure Comics #1 went up, and already something posited in my Big Bang fic is disproven. It probably doesn't seem like much, but it effectively erases one of my favorite parts of the story and storytelling.

One page and some commentary under the cut. Technically this is spoilery. Also the book doesn't come out til August. )
On the other hand, it's nice to see what the letter jackets look like. I'm absolutely torn over this comic, because I both want it to have an awesome and vibrant supporting cast, and I'm afraid of it having a significant supporting cast because that interferres with my supporting cast. But I want the book to be awesome! *tears hair*

I want to talk about the Red Robin #2 previews, but I haven't talked about Red Robin #1 yet, and I told myself I was going to spend today's library time working on Close To Home. Can I just say GO BUY RED ROBIN, and leave it at that for now? Oh my GOD I'm loving this comic. Red Robin is exactly the opposite of what happens when a writer who is unfamiliar with a character takes over a book. EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE.

I just signed up for the Big Bang. It's already making me nervous and fluttery, and just a little flailyhands. Help! Get ready to see a lot of this guy:
wip of DOOM
3000 / 25000
I should make an icon. An icon for the giant wip DOOOOOM. The poll ended up not being as much of a factor as I'd expected, but it was interesting to see that I'm apparently the only person who likes reading a whole story in one go.
