I was listening to NPR on the way to work this morning (and my drive takes all of five minutes, so this was rather awesome timing), and they did a piece on the Iron Editor Challenge at Otakon, which was pretty cool. You can listen to it here.

As for the girly stuff, I'm hiding it behind a cut. There's no descriptive detail or anything, (if you don't click the link) but I figure it's basic courtesy not to whine about one's medical problems in "public".

I have been bleeding more or less nonstop since April. The progestin the doctor gave me a month ago only managed to stop it for about three days. I'm going in for a d&c. This is a bigger deal than I thought it would be - they're going to put me under completely instead of just local, which makes me very nervous, as I am overweight and have asthma. Also, I am highly anemic, which is entirely the fault of my reproductive system. On a somewhat more positive note, I have finally found an iron supplement that doesn't tear my GI tract up - SlowFE seems to be pretty good stuff, And the pills are tiny compared with the Repliva, which were enormous. (In a grand dose of coincidence, I actually have a pile of paperwork from SlowFE's manufacturer on my desk, at the moment).

I'd say "I wish I were a boy," except I'd probably have prostate problems or something if I were.

ETA: STFU eljay, "girly" is so a word. As is "progestin"

absconding with info on SlowFE for other people with similar problems ;-)
Do you know if it's any kinder than FerroSequis?

Also, *hugs*. On principle. Bastardly girly stuff. -_-
*wishes luck*

I'm not familiar with FerroSequis. God, what a name.

indeed :-P They're the time-release ones I use when I remember, but my friend that's having some problems had an ulcer more recently than me and even the FerroSequis ones are a little rough for her, for all that they're advertised as super-gentle. XP

Naw, not prostate problems - kidney stones, aka nature's answer to the male childbirth experience. Or so I've heard.

It sucks that the progestin didn't help, but hopefully a d&c will take care of the problem. At least if they open you up you can hope they'll figure out what the hell is going on - I'm hoping they've checked for the usual cysts and the like already.

*hugs* I hope things go well. You deserve a break from all of this crap.
