I'm a huge fan of the TED conference videos (I really, really wish someone would cover the whole event, maybe one of the CSPANS, or even one of the Discovery networks). If you're not familiar with TED, you really should hit www.ted.com and have a look at some of the videos there. I first found out about TED when it became the venue for Will Wright's first demo of Spore (as part of a talk on procedural programing and user created content in videogames), and I've been fascinated ever since. Basically, they pick (somehow) 100 incredible new ideas and have their innovators talk about them. The subjects run the gamut, and I've yet to see a TED talk that wasn't interesting. This, of course, means that I could happily post links to each and every one of the videos and spam you all to death, but I've managed to refrain (somehow).

I wanted to share this one, though. It is perhaps not as earth shaking as some of the featured topics, as it is about a certain video game peripheral. It does, however, showcase human ingenuity, and include some basic do-it-yourself instructions for making a some nifty stuff.
I had seen people use the motion sensor in the Wii remote to create all kinds of things, like a pretty sensitive accelerometer (on the cheap, for his physics class). This guy used the infrared camera to do some pretty cool stuff.

The real reason I'm posting this is because I've had a weird thought convergence, and now I'm trying to figure out if the Wii remote could be incorporated into this hypothetical robot, featured in xkcd.  If I had more time and money, I might try. As it is, I'm totally making an interactive whiteboard. It ought to cost me under $20 (Since I've got the Wii remote, projector and screen already).

I think I might go through the TED archives later and make a top 10 or top 20 list. At the moment, I'm just taking a break from studying for a trig test for the last four and a half hours ^_^; Maybe this weekend.
