Gustav is officially the worst storm ever to hit Baton Rouge. The city is absolutely crazy right now. I'm posting on a cell again. We didn't have cell service for a while. Our water is okay (Sister's is suspect), and the power is out indefinitely, but we haven't lost phone, so you can get me at 225-925-8856, if you want to check in.

We have plenty of food and the gas situation has considerably improved. We have a small generator to run some appliances and fans, and we've been cooking on the grill.

A tree is leaning on our chimney. The roof is damaged but not breached. Brother's room has been emptied in case the roof goes. We lost a big tree in front, and another will have to come out. Dad's office may need a new roof (wind damage), but he's got power back as of a few hours ago. He had trees down, but we cleared them. We've cleaned up at home, office, and camp. I cut and moved a tree and a huge limb from the yard of an elderly neighbor who lives alone. I'm exhausted now.

Statewide, only two Parishes in the northeast survived unscathed. Grand Isle was underwater. Flooding finally crested today. It was the Amite River that got Sister, and it's going down now.

Words don't do the situation justice. I've pictures to share later. For now, try 2theadvocate.com. I know the national news is probably more interested in politics than our little disaster, but it's really hell down here. I'm okay, but many, many people have it worse.

I may be able to post pictures tomorrow.
