I'm back! The weekend was rather less emotionally devastating than I was fearing - score one for the power of tiny children as distractions.

It rained a lot Saturday, so we didn't get to do as much boating  as we would have liked, but Friday night we had a ridiculous mini-rave in the living room and Saturday there was a game of Minute to Win It.

Got to catch up with the branch of the family who have oil foam in their yards right now. CNN interviewed one of my cousins (who runs a pushboat company), which I'd known about, but I'd somehow missed the fact that another cousin was interviewed on NPR despite HAVING HEARD THE INTERVIEW. I caught about half of it and thought "Wow, that really sounds like Peg-Leg Pete. Haha, everyone in Burris sounds the same." ^_^;;;

My cousin's name is not actually Pete, by the way, but that's how he refers to himself. Because of the peg leg. Oh god, family, how are you so ridiculous.

I am glad it wasn't emotionally devastating *snuggles*

^_^ Thanks. I was really worried, but even though Granny came up a few times, most of the sad moments only lasted a short while.

She would have danced with us in the mini rave (Brother deliberately danced like her for a while, which cracked us all up - Granny could *rock out*), and she would have warmed the crowd up before we held our gameshow, and she and my great aunt would have had to so something silly in the competition. There are two rockers on the porch, and usually she's in one and my great aunt is in the other. No one wanted to sit in her chair at first, so it was decided that everyone over sixty had to take turns in it, or else my great aunt would have been sad and lonely.

The highlight of my weekend was probably just after the rave, when I was sitting on a small couch with about four tiny children of various ages, giving them interesting facts about marine animals (one of them had pjs with sharks and turtles on), and when I looked up from their rapt little faces, my seventy year old aunt was similarly rapt XD.

*hugs* I'm glad to hear the weekend wasn't as tough to get through as you'd anticipated.

Thanks! It went better than I'd hoped. I'm still exhausted though. XD

Welcome back! :)

I'm glad your trip wasn't as stressful as you thought it might be. "hugs"

Is it bad that I think its just awesome that you actually have a family member with a peg leg? 'Cause that's just awesome.

Technically it's a prosthesis, but it's definitely a stick+shoe and not a jointed leg. He had a mid-thigh amputation some years ago, I *think* as a result of diabetes.

This time last year, he was a 400 pound man with a peg leg, but he's lost about a hundred and thirty pounds in the last year.

How is his health overall now? Is he maintaining at least?

Other than the diabetes, the lack of leg, and almost being sixty, he's in good health. He's lost the weight fairly steadily at about 10 pounds a month or so, in a reasonably healthy manner. One of my uncles died two years ago from diabetes related kidney failure, and this guy's nephew just got a kidney transplant. He had a good reason to want the weight off.

That's great! I'm still learning about the ins and outs of how it all works (I have a friend who's on the list).
