I frequently write little bits of stories in my class notebooks and on pieces of scrap paper, and then never look at them again. This story started as one of those bits. I found a piece of folded typing paper while cleaning my car, and it held what would become the opening chapter of this story. The only problem was, it ended rather abruptly, and I had no idea what I’d intended to follow from that point.

I tossed the snippit around a bit, posted it on my livejournal as “The Mystery Potion Thing,” and finally remembered what I’d intended. And I liked it. I couldn’t think of why I hadn’t written more of it. What’s more, I was in the middle of reading a most excellent book, The Elements of Murder, by John Emsley, which had me in an alchemical frame of mind. So, I wrote more. At the time of this writing, I’m a few chapters in and really liking how it’s going. I’m setting myself the modest goal of a chapter every week, until I start fall classes, at least.

Wish me luck.

To Chapter One

While digging in my glovebox for something this morning, I found a folded up piece of typing paper that turned out to be the beginning (I think) of a HP fanfic. It is in my handwriting, but I don't remember writing it. The best part, though, is that my little one page selection is a total cliffhanger, and it's really bugging me now not knowing where the hell I was going with it. It appears to have been written before DH came out. I TOTALLY do not remember writing this. Looks good, though. I've been amusing myself trying to figure out what was about to happen. When I sat down at the computer (I'm between classes) I had the intention of typing it out and asking everyone to fill in the blank - only I seem to have left my mystery fic in my bio notebook in the car. I guess I'll do that after I get home.  (ETA: Snippit found and typed)

And that is, apparently, all she (I) wrote. I don't know whether Harry is dying or impotent or has some weird magic STD...no clue at all. So my question is this - what potion? Somebody give me an answer!

I'm taking a moment out of my lunch break to be a fangirl. This is HP stuff, having to do with DH. And family planning.

CONTAINS DEATHLY HALLOWS SPOILER

God I love a story with a good twist. This is the first DH-compliant fic I've seen, and I adore it. So funny! It's very, very funny, and very short. Even if you aren't a HP-fandomer, if you have read the book, I recommend you read this. It won't take a moment.

Take that, epilogue!

These are my initial gut reactions to Deathly Hallows, chapter by chapter. I sat down and tried to type these Saturday morning at like 10am (after being up dorking all night, and needing to digest a bit before I could possibly fall asleep). I got up to about chapter 7 and decided the Wii (my internet source at home, since I am sans computer) was not the way to type something this long, and also that I was exhausted and could sleep now.

Anyway, heavy spoilers ahead.

Being quite enamoured of [livejournal.com profile] painless_j's themed lists and enormous lists of recs (check out her userinfo for the full list of them - her Harry Potter projects are the most impressive, but she's got stuff from several fandoms), I've decided to try a list of my own. It's actually not going to be fandom specific, by its very nature. Here is how this works:

I am looking for really good crossovers, from any fandom to any fandom. If you can think of any, please, please, please reply to this post with the title, author, fandoms, pairings, etc, and of course a link to the story itself. I'm counting on you to send me some really good stuff. If your suggestion fits, I will add it to the list. Also, any flist pimping would be much appreciated, as the larger the submission pool, the better the list will be, and the more people will be able to use it.

What I want:

*       Crossovers between any two fandoms, with the exception of RPS. All ratings, warnings and pairings  (het/slash/gen/multiple/whatever) are accepted.
*      The fic quality must be decent. That is, spelling and grammar must be reasonable (occasional typos will be forgiven in a really good story),  and the author must be familiar with the canon of both fandoms.  Also, the smoother the integration of the fandoms, the better.
*      Only bring stories that you actually like.
*      If the fic is not a crossover but a fusion (wherein characters from one work become characters in another, rather than interacting with them), please let me know in your reply.  I may later make a separate list for such, and in any case would like to keep them separate.

What I don't want:

*       Anything that is poorly written or in which the author has a poor grasp of canon of either/both fandoms.
*      Metaverse or Meta fic (that is, the characters are aware of being characters, unless we're talking about, say, Fushigi Yuugi, where the characters kind of are characters. Or something).

If you have crossover art, rather than fiction to recommend, you should bring it to [livejournal.com profile] sulky_rhinohere.

List behind the cut )They don't care about equivalence, only prophecy. Traveling in a strange world fighting human monsters in skull masks, Ed plans to show them how the world really works.

Harry Potter/Pet Shop of Horrors crossover Albus Dumbledore/Sufu D

Fireworks by [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller (completed)
Harry Potter/Discworld crossover Remus/Angua
Remus goes back to Ankh-Morpork for a drink at Biers and meets an intriguing young officer of the City Watch. Excellent use of L-Space

Gravitation/Weiβ Kreuz
A case of mistaken identity leads Omi to some of the best - and the worst - moments of his life. and
Someone is determined to see Bad Luck gone, and Omi may be the only thing standing between the band and death.

I'm at work and have nothing to do (my boss has taken a day off without warning us and there are no patients today) so after tidying a bit, I sat down and actually wrote a short piece of fanfiction - the first, probably, in about three years.  I had originally intended for it to be a '5 things' fic, but I couldn't really think of a 5th thing. It is very gen, and probably tooth-destroying in it's saccharine-ness. Two of the ficlets have been living in my head since about book 3 (Father Christmas and the walk home, the latter being my favorite).

Title: Four Things That Happened to Harry Potter When He Was Six Years Old (At Least One of Which He Will Later Be Sure He Must Have Imagined)

Summary: See title

If you spot any grammatical errors, etc. I would appreciate you letting me know.
